Tuesday’s girls’ rewind: South Meck holds off rival Charlotte Catholic

South Mecklenburg’s Nykira Arrington played a game to remember Tuesday night.

In a 67-58 win over Charlotte Catholic, Arrington had 16 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and five steals.

South Mecklenburg (5-3) held off several Catholic (2-4) rallies to win a matchup of teams who won state playoff games a year ago.

Kaitlyn Hensley added 16 points, Kate Kendrick 10 and K.B. Brown and Chloe Grant nine each for South Mecklenburg.

Megan Shea had a game-high 19 points for Catholic.

Tuesday’s #BIG5 girls’ top performers

Misa Garris, Queen’s Grant: In a 58-19 win over Piedmont Community Charter, Garris had 23 points, nine steals, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.

Amiya Martin, Chambers: In a 51-17 win over Olympic, Martin had 20 points, four rebounds and a steal. It was he third game this season with 15 or more points in seven starts. Teammate Ciara Moore had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: In an 47-36 win over Newton-Conover, Montanari had 28 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Kylie Riggenbach, Lincoln Charter: In a 62-43 win over North Rowan, Riggenbach had 24 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Her sister, Taylor, had 18 points four rebounds.

Jaylah Thomas, Sugar Creek Charter: In a 44-43 win over Mountain Island Charter, the frehsman had a career high 22 points, plus three rebounds, one steal and a block.
