Kory Bridges hired to lead West Meck girls’ hoops in AD Ryan Lutz’s rebuild plan
Former Charlotte Country Day girls’ basketball coach Kory Bridges is coming to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Bridges is the new girls’ basketball coach at West Mecklenburg, part of a series of hires by second-year Hawks athletic director Ryan Lutz aimed at rebuilding the school’s sports program.
Lutz, an Ohio State grad, was hired in March 2025 and has quickly looked to add strong coaches and a strong social media brand to the school.
His boys’ basketball hire, Chris Ewell, was named Charlotte Observer coach of the year this season after taking over a 0-25 team and making it a conference champion. Lutz also hired former CMS football star Randall Ingram to become the school’s new football coach.
And on Thursday, he announced that Bridges was joining the staff.
Bridges, a former student at Charlotte’s Victory Christian School, coached for five seasons at Country Day and turned around a once-struggling program. His 2023-24 team finished 17-11, the most wins since the 2019-20 season, and made a run to the third round of the NCISAA playoffs. Bridges’ 2024-25 team produced the second 20-win season at Country Day since at least the 2006-07 school year.
Bridges was named Charlotte Observer girls’ basketball coach of the year after the 2024-25 season.
Now, he’ll take over a Hawks program that was 6-20 last season. West Meck hasn’t had a winning season since going 17-1-0 in 2012-13 under coach Antoine Avinger.
