Charlotte’s Truist Field voted one of the four best ballparks in the minors

Charlotte’s Truist Field is one of the best minor league ballparks in the country, according to a fan-voted bracket.

The stadium made it to the four-team semifinals of Baseball Digest’s 2023 MiLB Best of the Ballparks, Triple-A fan vote before falling to Polar Park, home of the Worcester Red Sox in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Tens of thousands of baseball fans voted in the competition, the magazine said.

Truist was the No. 10 overall seed in the bracket, with seeding “not the result of a formal grading system, but rather recommendations based on years of attending games, seeing how the ballparks function behind the scenes (we have seen plenty of ballpark cisterns while on visits in the past), how these ballparks have made an impact in their communities, and noting how ballparks are regarded within the industry,” Baseball Digest said.

Elsewhere in North Carolina, Durham Bulls Athletic Park was the No. 5 overall seed but fell in the second round of the tournament.

Truist Field history

Opened in 2014, Truist Field was originally called BB&T Ballpark.

It’s home to the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and has a capacity of “approximately 10,200,” per Major League Baseball.

In addition to Knights games, the park also hosts college baseball games and the holiday-themed Light the Knights Festival, among other events.
