Checkered flag: Sheldon Creed wins* — Championship 4 driver

After a caution with four laps to go forcing overtime, Sheldon Creed used a pit stop to his advantage and win the NASCAR Truck Series championship, taking the checkered flag at Phoenix Raceway. Zane Smith finished second.

We’ll post results here shortly.

18 laps to go: Brett Moffitt out front

9:26 p.m.: Brett Moffitt is closing in on the championship. He has a 2.6-secound lead over Sheldon Creed, who is in second place.

30 laps to go: Moffitt, Creed looking for championship

9:20 p.m.: Winding down to the end here. Brett Moffitt and Sheldon (-0.6) Creed are running 1 and 2. Smith is 1.5 seconds back with Grant Enfinger (fifth) 2.3 seconds behind.

Lap 104: Caution out, Enfinger pit stop

9:08 p.m.: Another clean restart gives way to a caution for Hocevar getting into the wall. His night is done. During the yellow flag, Enfinger, who was out of the top-five, comes to pit road for four new tires and fuel. He’s the only driver to pit. The running order is still Moffitt, Creed and Smith in the top-three. Smith’s radio debates taking the bottom lane for the restart. Enfinger restarts 12th.

Lap 90: Moffitt wins Stage 2

8:54 p.m.: Moffitt holds onto first through the green-and-white checkered flag. It’s Smith who challenges him from second as Creed drops back to third. Enfinger closes the stage in fifth. The order off pit road is Moffitt, Smith, Creed and Enfinger.

The rest of the order is Rhodes (4th), Friesen (6th) Ankrum (7th), Lessard (8th) Eckes (9th) and Mayer (10th).

Lap 75: Moffitt takes top spot

8:48 p.m.: Creed reports he’s loose on the bottom and is losing speed through Turns 1 and 2. And that’s around the same time Moffitt catches up to the leader and finally makes his pass for P1. Enfinger is continuing to struggle to reach the top-three. He’s in fifth.

Lap 60: Moffitt challenges Creed for first

8:39 p.m.: Creed wins the race off pit road, followed by Moffitt, Smith, Enfinger and Eckes in the top-five, after the pit stops. When the race re-starts, Enfinger tries the low lane from third, but falls back to sixth. Moffitt races into second place and challenges Creed for first for a few laps, driving the low lane, but Creed pulls ahead to hold onto his lead.

Lap 45: Zane Smith wins the first stage at Phoenix

8:25 p.m.: The series rookie wins the first stage of the championship, leading all laps so far. Smith was able to put more distance between himself and Creed in the final few laps, leading by over two seconds at the flag. Creed started gaining on Smith in the last 10 laps, but isn’t able to get next to him. The order at the stage finish is still Smith, Creed, Moffitt and Enfinger. “Keep being patient. This stage doesn’t mean anything,” Enfinger’s radio says coming to the stage close.

The rest of the finishing order is Crafton, Rhodes, Ankrum, Eckes, Friesen and Kraus in the top-10.

Lap 25: Same order, settling in

8:17 p.m.: Smith continues to lead Creed by over a second, followed by Moffitt and Enfinger. The Championship 4 do not earn stage points tonight. Only the drivers out of the running will get points in the top-10 at the stage finishes. After the top-four, the order is Crafton, Friesen, Ankrum, Eckes, Rhodes and Kraus after the first 25 laps.

Lap 5: Smith jumps out front

8:10 p.m.: Smith quickly gets to P1 as Enfinger, starting on the pole, drops back to fourth. The early running order is Smith, Creed, Moffitt, Enfinger. Smith has an almost two-second lead on Creed in second.

Pre-race ceremonies

7:55 p.m.: Teams are on the grid and ready to race. A member of the American Medical Response’s honor guard performs the national anthem. Greg Cozzo, the head of promotions and activations at Lucas Oil, gives the command to start engines. 150 laps to the finish!

Sun setting, getting ready for night racing

7:45 p.m.: It is warm and cloudy in Maricopa County. The sun is setting over the track as drivers are introduced under pink skies and in front of limited fans at the track. Phoenix Raceway announced that its ticket capacity for the weekend has been reached. The track is allowing about 20 percent capacity, or around 8,400 fans, for the championship weekend, according to FOX Sports.

Starting order stands

7:10 p.m.: NASCAR announces following pre-race technical inspection that no trucks will go to the rear for the start of the race. That means the starting order stands with Enfinger on the pole and Smith in the front row. Pre-race ceremonies will begin 10 minutes before 8 p.m. and the green flag will wave at 8:05 p.m. The race is on FS1.
