Tom Brady to the Panthers, Carolina’s Super Bowl odds and other bad NFL bets for 2020
Tom Brady isn’t going to be a Carolina Panther.
The Panthers aren’t going to win Super Bowl 55.
None of that matters for online odds makers eager to take your well earned money.
Following the Chiefs’ 31-20 victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday night, various odds were published regarding the 2020 NFL season. Among them were the teams most likely to win next year’s Super Bowl and where Tom Brady will be playing.
The Panthers have the 25th-best (or eighth-worst) odds to win the Super Bowl, according to Sports Betting Dime, at 80/1. That’s one spot better than the Cardinals (90/1) and one behind the Broncos (75/1). Kansas City is the favorite to repeat at 7/1, followed by the Ravens (8/1) and the Saints and 49ers at 10/1.
Brady, the 42-year-old six-time Super Bowl champion and greatest quarterback in NFL history, could become a free agent this offseason, and there’s already a report that the Raiders are interested in signing him. SBD’s odds still favor him to return to the Patriots next season (2/3), but the website set his odds to play for the Panthers in Week 1 at 30/1. Other teams’ chances to land Brady? The Chargers (6/1), Raiders (9/1) and Browns (35/1).
The odds for Brady to not be on a roster next year (29/1) are actually slightly better than him playing for Carolina, and if his troll of a Hulu Super Bowl ad is to be believed — he’s not going anywhere.
Christian McCaffrey’s odds to win NFL MVP were 95/1, just behind Brady (75/1). A healthy Run CMC will surely be in the MVP conversation next season, but a running back hasn’t won the award since Adrian Peterson (Vikings) in 2012; it has been all quarterbacks since.
If you value your money, don’t throw it away on these bets. The Panthers are in a rebuild with new coach Matt Rhule and his staff. Even owner David Tepper has suggested that he doesn’t expect a miracle turnaround in 2020, noting that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
You’d have better luck taking this bet from SBD: The Panthers’ odds for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft are 12/1.
