Providence Day students, faculty injured in crash in Argentina

Several students and two faculty chaperones from Charlotte's Providence Day School were injured in a crash in Argentina on Sunday, according to a statement from the school.

One person was killed in the Buenos Aires crash, but that person was not connected with Providence Day, the school's release states.

The group traveling in Argentina included 10 high school students and the faculty chaperones, according to the school.

Two representatives from the school are on their way to Argentina, the school said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"Throughout last evening and today, we have been in constant communication with our families to provide whatever support they might need," school officials said in the statement.

The school did not release the names or conditions of the people involved in the crash.

"Once we have a better understanding of the families' needs and how our community can express its support, we will share that information," the release states.

Providence Day has also offered counseling information to parents and employees, according to the statement.

Upper School students at Providence Day can choose from as many as six travel opportunities in a school year, according to the school's website. Some trips are during spring break and some are in the summer.

Providence Day's Facebook page showed middle school students heading to France and high schoolers traveling in Australia this month.
