Kindred opening 2nd restaurant in Lake Norman
Joe and Katy Kindred, whose Kindred Restaurant in Davidson has grabbed local and national attention, have announced plans to open a second restaurant on Lake Norman in Cornelius.
Located in the former Rusty Rudder location, Hello, Sailor will have a seafood focus and will offer dockside dining and drinks in The Holiday Marina.
“We’re still kind of figuring it out as far as the menu’s concerned,” Katy Kindred said Monday. “It will be more than seafood. We’re putting in a smoker as well.”
The restaurant is expected to open in the first half of 2017 after a complete renovation of the building.
“We’re just in the very early creative part of it,” Katy Kindred said.
Opened in February 2015, the Kindreds’ Davidson restaurant quickly found favor with restaurant critics, including being named one of the 10 top restaurants in 2015 by Bon Appetit. Joe Kindred was one of 20 chefs to make the semifinalist list for Best Chef Southeast for the James Beard Awards, although the restaurant wasn’t named a finalist.
With a combination of locally focused, Southern-inspired food and an innovative cocktail program, Kindred quickly has become a destination restaurant in the area.
