Hundreds of new townhouses could be coming to Ardrey Kell Road
A rezoning plan filed recently with the city of Charlotte shows a busy street could be getting even busier, with plans for up to 245 new townhouses across from a high school.
The plan was filed by Century Communities, a builder that’s been busier in the Charlotte market in recent months. The company is planning to build on almost 37 acres directly across from Ardrey Kell High School.
The site is mostly vacant now, occupied by several large houses on large, partially wooded lots.
A site plan filed as part of the rezoning request shows dense blocks of attached houses built around a new, internal street network, with access from Ardrey Kell Road and Wade Ardrey Road.
Charlotte City Council will hold hearings on the plan and vote on it in the coming months.
Earlier this year, Century Communities bought almost 50 acres just south of the Arrowood light rail station on the Blue Line. The company is building 329 townhouses there, starting in the low $200,000s.
