Festival in the Park, a free, family-friendly Charlotte tradition since 1964, kicked off its annual weekend of art and musical offerings at Freedom Park on Friday afternoon.

All festival events will occur as planned, the festival announced, despite the week’s civil unrest in uptown Charlotte.

The festival features at least 150 artists and crafts people and nearly a thousand entertainers.

The nonprofit festival has been ranked as one of the Top 200 festivals in the United States by Sunshine Artists Magazine and typically draws at least 85,000 visitors.

Hours are 4-9:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
