Man shot and killed Monday in Charlotte motel
An early morning Memorial Day shooting at a north Charlotte motel has left one man dead. A 16-year-old was also assaulted in the incident.
The dead man has been identified as Bobby Edward Wesley Jr., 23.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they found the pair after answering at 5:31 a.m. call at the 5100 block of Reagan Drive, which flanks Interstate 85 near Sugar Creek Road.
An adult found in a room at the Travel Inn was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound, police said. The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries.
The death comes during an unusually violent year for Charlotte, with homicides spiking through the early part of 2017. The latest killing makes the 35th homicide investigation this year for CMPD, and the fourth in the past week. The department had 68 homicides in 2016, which was higher than previous years.
Police were interviewing witnesses and searching the area this morning.
