Another Charlottean is fatally shot – and again, victim knew the suspect, police say
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police made an arrest Monday morning in the city’s 38th homicide, and as in so many other cases, the victim and suspect knew each other.
The victim in the Monday morning shooting was identified as William Weddington, 24, and the suspect is Maurice Grant, 63. Grant is charged with murder, officials said.
Witnesses told investigators the two men were involved in a domestic dispute when Grant shot the victim, police said.
The shooting happened in the 3500 block of Spring Terrace Lane in north Charlotte. Police were called at 12:52 a.m. and found Weddington with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Grant lives in the home where the shooting occurred, officials said.
It was the city’s second homicide in just 24 hours.
On Sunday afternoon, Lucas Lorenzo Baldwin, 34, was shot and killed in the Tanglewood Apartments in the 4500 block of Wynbrook Way, police said. Police believe Baldwin and the suspect knew each other, but the investigation is ongoing.
