Police search for hit-and-run driver who killed 21-year-old man on busy Charlotte road
Police are searching for the driver who hit and killed a 21-year-old man on a busy Charlotte road late Monday.
The victim, Harvey Lee Pettis, was walking in the 8500 block of Idlewild Road to visit a friend, when he was hit by a white pick-up truck, police said.
The truck fled the scene, and Pettis was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he later died, police said.
Police are now looking for the truck, which they said was last seen driving southeast on Idlewild Road toward Margaret Wallace Road.
The vehicle has a loud exhaust, police said, and the front of the truck should be damaged.
Idlewild Road was closed after the incident, but opened early Tuesday morning.
