In Cornelius, rail repair work will keep N.C. 115 closed until 7 p.m. Friday from north of Bailey Road to just south of Meadow Crossing Lane.
Norfolk Southern hoped to open the road for the evening commute, but the extent of work was more than expected, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Detours are in place:
Northbound drivers take N.C. 73/Sam Furr Road to U.S. 21/Statesville Road to Catawba Avenue and back to N.C. 115.
Southbound drivers go in the opposite direction. Local traffic still has access to Bailey and Washam Potts roads.
