Six workers were injured Wednesday morning in an explosion and fire at a trucking company warehouse in north Charlotte, Charlotte fire officials said.

One of the employees had life-threatening injuries, while the other workers’ injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The fire started at about 5:45 a.m. at Wilson Trucking Corp. in the 7500 block of Statesville Road.

Ninety firefighters battled the blaze, which produced billowing black smoke and forced the closure of Statesville Road in both directions between Sunset Road and Lakeview Road.

The fire caused about $1.5 million in damage, Captain Jackie Gilmore of the Charlotte Fire Department said. The cause is under investigation.

A spokeswoman at Wilson Trucking’s corporate offices in Fishersville, Va., said the company had no information to release about the fire.
