Hit-and-run fugitive in custody in Texas
The fugitive wanted in connection with a hit-and-run wreck that killed a 6-year-old boy has turned himself in to authorities in Texas.
Juan Antonio Quintanilla-Garza, 32, is accused of driving a white van that hit Anthony Santos Castellon-Rivera as he was crossing Eastway Drive with his family on April 24.
Quintanilla-Garza was taken into custody by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. Webb County includes the city of Laredo.
Extradition will begin immediately, although there is no timetable for Quintanilla-Garza’s return to Mecklenburg County, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Police had already found the van that they believed was involved in the collision. On Thursday CMPD identified Quintanilla-Garza as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant against him for felony hit-and-run.
“At this time, detectives have been in contact with Quintanilla-Garza, who is believed to be out of the state,” police said in a news release last week.
