Body recovered from small lake in Monroe
A body was recovered from a small lake in Monroe on Sunday, fire officials said.
A passerby went to the Monroe firehouse at 3 p.m. to report a damaged guard rail on Quarry Road near South Sutherland Road. The person told firefighters on duty that it looked as if a car crashed through the guard rail.
When firefighters searched the pond, they found a body that appeared to have been in the water for a while. Police are working to identify the body. Charlotte Fire Department dive teams are expected to use sonar to search the water for a vehicle and any other possible victims.
