Ivo Simovic, who spent the past two seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Hartford, has joined the staff at Charlotte, coach Mark Price announced.
“We are really excited to add Ivo to our coaching staff,” said Price, whose 49ers were 13-17 last season. “He brings a lot of years of coaching experience in Europe as a head coach to our program.
“He will add a piece to our puzzle here at Charlotte and help us expand our recruiting base.”
Simovic (See-mo-vich), who was Hartford’s associate head coach last season, will replace Chris Ferguson.

Simovic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, spent the summers of 2013 and 2014 working as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs’ summer-league teams. He received a ring from the team after the Spurs won the 2014 NBA Finals.
He graduated from Belgrade’s Union University with a degree in industrial economic management. Simovic and his wife, Jelena, have two children, Ema and Marko.
“My family and I are very excited to join the Charlotte 49ers’ men’s basketball program and the university community,” Simovic said. “I'm very thankful for the opportunity that coach Mark Price has given me and I'm sure that we will be very successful.”
