Observer Sweet 16 basketball polls: Cox Mill holds at No. 1 boys; new No. 1 girls

The two feature games in last week’s Charlotte Hoops Challenge matched teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll.

Ardrey Kell’s girls, then ranked No. 2, beat Mallard Creek 54-43. This week, the Knights take over the No. 1 spot in the poll. Mallard Creek drops to No. 2. North Meck debuts at No. 9.

▪ No. 1 Cox Mill stays there after beating No. 2 Providence Day 64-59 on the boys side. Providence Day dropped a spot to No. 3. Independence gets a big debut, jumping in at No. 8
