Jamarius Burton, Independence: 33 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals in a 72-65 win over Ardrey Kell in a third round 4A win Saturday

Evonna McGill, Gastonia Ashbrook girls: 14 points, 22 rebounds in a 54-41 third round playoff win over Waxhaw Cuthbertson Saturday.

Wendell Moore, Concord Cox Mill: 32 points, 11 rebounds in a 81-57 win over Winston-Salem Mount Tabor (23-8) Saturday.

Journey Muhammad, Deniyah Lutz, Ardrey Kell girls: Muhammad had 27 points and Lutz, the school’s all-time leading scorer, finished with 23 to lead the Knights, then No. 5 in the Sweet 16, to a 73-64 win over then No. 1 Harrisburg Hickory Ridge in a round of 16 win Saturday.

Myles Pierre, Carmel Christian: junior guard had 28 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists -- plus the game-winning basket in Saturday’s 74-72 double-overtime win over Gaston Day in the NCISAA 2A state championship game.

Ahlana Smith, Dazia Lawrence, Mallard Creek girls: Smith had 17 points, four rebounds in a 66-51 win over South Meck Saturday. The Mavericks, who reached the state semifinals last season, got 16 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds from Lawrence.

Jaden Springer, Rocky River: 29 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, five assists in upset win over former Sweet 16 No. 1 North Meck, which had its 46-game home win streak snapped.
