Day 1 of the Phenom Hoops Queen City Challenge drew nearly 2,000 fans to York County Saturday to watch 110 travel showcase boys basketball teams.

The tournament featured some of North Carolina's top showcase travel teams, including N.C. shoe-sponsored teams from Team Charlotte (Under Amour), Team United (Nike) and Team Loaded (adidas).

In the day's featured game, Chris Paul's CP3 team beat Raymond Felton's Team Felton in a matchup of 17U, or rising high school senior, boys. Wendell Moore of Cox Mill High paced CP3 to a 72-53 win over Team Felton and Duke recruit Joey Baker.

Moore, the Observer's co-region player of the year who has a home-visit with Duke coaches Sunday, looked like the player of the day.

Saturday's Key Results (17U division)

Team CP3 72, Team Felton 53
Team Wall 60, Team Felton 58
Team CP3 69, Team Wall 39

Team Charlotte 91, Team Loaded 704 77
Team United 69, PSB Elite Frazier 46

Saturday's Top Performers (17u)

Juwan Gary, Team United, 6-6 (2019): Gary is ranked among the countries Top 50 prospects in his class. He is a veteran of Team USA training camp for his age group and is playing like someone who will move his way to be a McDonald's All American. Gary showcased the full arsenal Saturday, shooting it, attacking the rim and finishing all over the court.

Wendell Moore, Team CP3, 6-6 (2019): Moore is among the country's Top 25 prospects, and the folks at Phenom Hoop Report believe that is probably 10 to 15 spots too low. The game seems to move slowly for Moore, as he seems to see two plays ahead of many of his peers. He handles the ball well and he has great vision. Moore is one of the best "winners" this region has.

Caleb Mills, PSB Elite Fraizer, 6-3, (2019): Could be a breakout summer for Mills. He is a high-level scorer who has great length and scores from all levels. Mills was a consistent force Saturday.
