Thursday's roundup: Latin soccer star McCabe hits milestone
Charlotte Latin senior soccer standout Mary Elliott McCabe reached a rare landmark in her sport Thursday evening, scoring the 100th goal of her high school career.
The goal came in Latin’s 3-1 home victory over Charlotte Country Day.
McCabe, a North Carolina commit, has scored 26 times this season and is averaging 1.85 goals a game. She scored 13 goals in her freshman season, added 28 as a sophomore, and scored 33 last season as the Hawks won the Division 3 private school state championship.
Sutton Jones and Anna Calloway added goals Thursday for Charlotte Latin, and Maddy George tallied for Country Day.
Featured performers
Annamaria Evans (Christ the King girls’ soccer): Evans, a junior striker, scored four goals and added an assist as the Crusaders trounced Davidson Day 10-2.
Eveleen Hahn (Charlotte Catholic girls’ soccer): Hahn, a junior, scored three goals and added an assist in her team’s 5-0 blanking of Monroe Parkwood. Hahn has 30 goals this season and 60 for her high school career.
Gabby Holloway (Concord Cannon School girls’ softball): Holloway, a sophomore, pitched a one-hitter as her team blanked Providence Day 10-0. Holloway has tossed shutouts in four of her last five outings. She also went 2-for-3 at bat.
Mia Holmes (Gaston Christian girls’ softball): Holmes, a sophomore, slammed two singles and two home runs, driving in eight runs, as her team downed High Point Wesleyan 13-1. Holmes is batting .607 for the season.
Luke McClelland (Charlotte Country Day tennis): McClelland, a Washington University (St. Louis) commit, downed Charlotte Latin standout Ian Bircak in No. 1 singles for the second time this season. Country Day swept the Hawks 9-0.
Will Shipley (Weddington boys’ lacrosse): A junior, Shipley scored four goals and added an assist as the Warriors edged private school power Arden Christ School 14-13.

Southlake Christian 15, Charlotte Country Day 8: Alex Manning scored four goals and added two assists in the victory. Baker Westmoreland scored three times for Southlake Christian and had an assist. He took seven shots in the game.
Weddington 14, Arden Christ School 13: The Warriors knocked off one of the state’s top private school teams, improving to 12-2 on the season. James Shipley led the way with four goals, Will Shipley scored three times, and Austin Leonard had two goals and two assists. Christ School fell to 11-3.

Kershaw Andrew Jackson 3, Lancaster Buford 1: The visiting Volunteers improved to 4-0 in the region.
OTHER MATCH
Indian Land 3, Lancaster 1: Indian Land outscored the Bruins 2-0 in the second half and improved to 14-3-1 on the season.
Boys’ tennis
Charlotte Country Day 9, Charlotte Latin 0: The Buccaneers scored a big CISAA triumph, with Luke McClelland, Taran Prakashi, Bennett Turner, Kaelin Van Cleef, Johnny Bingham and Michael Smith winning in singles.
Doubles winners were the teams of McClelland-Turner, Prakash-Van Cleef, and Bingham-Smith. All three doubles matches were tightly played, with Country Day winning 8-6.
China Grove Jesse Carson 6, Statesville 3
Lancaster 4, Rock Hill South Pointe 2: The Bruins won the S.C. Region 3 4A championship, playing on the USC-Lancaster courts. Lancaster compiled a 9-1 region record, losing only to York early in the season.
Singles winners for Lancaster were Isaac Thomas (No. 1 singles), Zack Onisick (No. 4) and Connor Parman (No. 5). The doubles team of Brevon McKinney and Jakob Sapp also won for the Bruins. South Pointe had singles victories by Martin Jackson (No. 2) and Ethan Bell (No. 3, in three sets over Jacob Hudson).
Shelby 6, Belmont South Point 3: Shelby clinched the Southwestern 2A title with the victory.
South Iredell 8, East Rowan 1: The Vikings improved to 10-0.
Girls’ lacrosse
Charlotte Latin 15, Charlotte Country Day 13: Gracie Colombo scored six goals, and Gia Colombo added four for the Hawks. Olivia Clements and Cecelia Monnin added two goals each for Latin. Thea Reddin’s four goals led Country Day, which also got three goals apiece from E.A. Moseley and Charlotte Pedlow.

Unionville Piedmont 2, Monroe 1: Carissa Simpson scored on an assist from Karson Eaton for one Panther goal, and the other tally came on an “own goal” by Monroe.
Waxhaw Cuthbertson 2, Marvin Ridge 0: Brooke Austin and Abigail Spellings scored for the Cavaliers. The outcome left both teams 7-3 in the conference, tied with Weddington for second place.
Weddington 8, Indian Trail Sun Valley 0: The Warriors’ victory kept them third in the conference, with a 7-3 record.

East Lincoln 1, North Lincoln 0 (OT): East Lincoln scored in the second overtime for its seventh victory in 10 conference matches.
Lake Norman Charter 10, Maiden 1: The host Knights ran their conference record to 10-0, with Ayden Yates (three goals, three assists) and Kasey Hahn (two goals, two assists) leading the way.
Lincolnton 2, Catawba Bandys 0: The second-place Wolves improved to 8-2 in the conference, behind second-half goals from Faith Brunner and Brittny Cabalceta. Goalkeeper Biance Morales got the shutout.

Belmont South Point 4, East Gaston 0: The Red Raiders got two goals from freshman Brooke Villemagne in building their conference record to 6-0. Mary Walker and Sophia Denmark each had a goal and an assist for South Point.
R-S Central 1, East Rutherford 0: The Hilltoppers improved to 5-1 in the conference, staying a match behind South Point.

Community School of Davidson 2, Lincoln Charter 0: Lincoln Charter suffered its first loss of the season, in a meeting of area 1A powers. Community School of Davidson, which has played a very tough nonconference schedule, is 7-7-2 overall. Lincoln Charter fell to 13-1.
Concord Cox Mill 3, Mallard Creek 1: All the scoring came in the second half, with Cox Mill building its record to 11-2-2 and dropping the Mavericks to 11-4-1.
Gaston Day 9, Carmel Christian 1: Maddie Ginther scored three goals, and Ashley Beaty added a pair of goals for the victorious Spartans. McKaley Boston added a goal and an assist. Carmel Christian’s goal came from Mary Thomas Queen.
Richmond Senior 4, Marshville Forest Hills 1: The Raiders scored a road victory, with Jayana Nicholson, Carley Lambeth, Valery Standridge and Caroline Whitney scoring goals.
South Iredell 2, Kings Mountain 0: Erin Shaver’s two goals carried the Vikings (14-0-1) over the Mountaineers (10-4-1). South Iredell goalkeeper Rylie Gaus made seven saves.

Sophie Rucker went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in two runs, and Lindsay Batten had two hits, a walk, and scored three runs. Winning pitcher Alyssa Farrar tossed a four-hitter, and the Buccaneers’ Katie Batten and Harlee Hawthorne each had four stolen bases.
Concord Cannon School 10, Providence Day 0: Angel Brown went 2-for-3, driving in three runs, for the victors.
Covenant Day 7, Charlotte Christian 6: Winning pitcher Sadie Evans struck out nine and helped her cause with two singles, a triple, and three runs scored. Teammate Madison Stophel went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Lions. Charlotte Christian’s Anna Barnett went 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles, and she scored twice.

Lake Norman Charter 11, Lincolnton 5: In a game played Wednesday, seniors Emily Reinstadtler and Khristen McPherson celebrated Senior Night by pitching the Knights to victory. Each player went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Reinstadtler driving in four runs. Jenna Carter, a junior, went 4-for-4, scoring three times and knocking in two runs.

Forest City Chase 8, Belmont South Point 7 (8 innings): Faith Hamil led Chase with three hits, and Makayla Gordon added two hits and two RBI.

South Stanly 13, North Stanly 1: South Stanly ran its conference record to 13-0, as Konner Napier fired a three-hitter and struck out 10. Kaitlyn Tucker went 3-for-4, with four RBI. She also drew a walk.

Fort Mill 1, Fort Mill Nation Ford 0: The Yellowjackets won with only two hits, scoring in the bottom of the fifth. Janelle Inaqua had two of Nation Ford’s four hits.

York 13, Richland Northeast 2: York scored in five of six innings, improving to 8-2 in the region.

Cramerton Stuart Cramer 9, Gastonia Highland Tech 8: The host Storm scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for the victory. Tiara Davis (two hits, three RBI) and Gracie Wright (two hits, two RBI) led Stuart Cramer.
Gaston Christian 13, High Point Wesleyan 1: Anna Crenshaw supported Mia Holmes’ hitting (see “Featured performers”) by getting two hits and three RBI.
Independence 9, Weddington 5: Jaylin Adkins homered, Brianna Grant drove in three runs with two hits, and Adrianna Berry had two hits and three RBI for the Patriots.
Indian Trail Porter Ridge 15, Indian Trail Sun Valley 6 (10 innings): A 6-6 tie after nine innings evaporated when the Pirates scored nine times in the top of the 10th.Kenlynn Walker went 3-for-6, scoring three times, and Hailey Jernigan drove in three Porter Ridge runs.
Monroe Central Academy 7, Indian Trail Metrolina Christian 3: Central Academy scored five runs in the bottom of the third. Sophomores Desiree Bain and Madison McBride each had a pair of hits for the victors.
Mooresville 13, Alexander Central 3: The Blue Devils ran their record to 15-3 and dropped Alexander Central to 15-4, scoring seven times in the fourth inning. Mooresville slammed 14 hits, five of them home runs. Three of those homers came in the fourth.
