Charlotte Hornets hire a Swarm coach, add a center to training camp roster
The Charlotte Hornets have hired a coach for their new Development League affiliate and added another center to their training camp roster.
The Hornets hired Noel Gillespie, most recently a Denver Nuggets assistant coach, to coach the Greensboro Swarm. In addition, the Hornets announced they will bring center Mike Tobey to training camp.
Gillespie spent the last three seasons with the Nuggets after 10 seasons with the Phoenix Suns. He got his start in the NBA breaking down video for the Indiana Pacers.
Gillespie will work closely with Hornets coach Steve Clifford to run the same offensive and defensive schemes the Hornets do.
Tobey, 6-foot-11, played his college ball at Virginia. After going unselected in the June NBA draft, Tobey played for the Hornets’ team in the Orlando summer league. He averaged 10 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and one steal five summer-league games.
