Carolina Panthers add veteran CB Leonard Johnson

The Carolina Panthers added veteran cornerback Leonard Johnson to the roster on Thursday, Panthers.com reports.

The Panthers waived cornerback Shaq Richardson to make room for Johnson on the 90-man roster.

Johnson played nickel cornerback (139 tackles, five interceptions and 20 passes defended) for Tampa Bay in 48 games (17 starts) over three seasons. New England picked him up off the injured reserve list last season and started him in three of the Patriots’ final four regular season games.

Richardson, drafted by the Steelers in 2014, had yet to appear in a regular season game.
