Who’s going to win the Wells Fargo Championship? Here are predictions from the Observer’s team of reporters covering this week’s tournament at Quail Hollow Club:

RICK BONNELL

Rory McIlroy: The difference can be faith. McIlroy knows how to be daring at Quail Hollow and has been rewarded for it often.

SCOTT FOWLER

Phil Mickelson: Yes, it’s a sentimental choice, but wouldn’t it be terrific? Mickelson is always finishing around the top 10 at Quail Hollow - maybe this year is the breakthrough.

RON GREEN JR.

Justin Thomas: He won here (at PGA Championship) in August and there’s no reason he can’t double up.

BRENDAN MARKS

Rory McIlroy: Two-time champion in this tournament will improve on a strong Masters showing and win his third Wells Fargo title.

DAVID SCOTT

Rickie Fowler: His first career victory came at Quail Hollow (in 2012), so it will always be a special place for Fowler. It's time for him to win again.
