Soon, it’ll be your last night at the Roxbury: Charlotte nightclub will close
After 11 years in uptown Charlotte, the iconic ‘80s and ‘90s nightclub Roxbury will close its doors.
The dance club cited an end to its lease at the location on 5th Street as the reason behind the closure, which owner and DJ Jody Sullivan confirmed to CharlotteFive on Friday. Sullivan told us he’d know more about a potential next location after Memorial Day.
The Roxbury’s last day in its current location will be June 24.
“We have five weekends left. Don’t wait,” Roxbury posted. “Thank you Charlotte for 11 years of support and all the memories.”
Before Roxbury, Charlotte had The Breakfast Club, a 1980s-themed nightclub that was open from 2001-2012 in Uptown on Caldwell Street.
When The Breakfast Club closed, Sullivan, who goes by DJ Jody Jam, opened Roxbury. The new club focused on 1980s and 1990s music. It celebrated its 10th anniversary in November 2022.
Roxbury fans requested a repeat of history, please. Maybe next up is a club celebrating the next decade?
“The last time this happened, Breakfast Club became Roxbury in a different location. I’m hoping this means a 2000s hangout is coming soon nearby,” Ramona Holloway pointed out on the bar’s Instagram post.
“Please no! I hope you’re opening somewhere else again, there’s no other place like this anywhere in the city,” stated @beautyishername327.
“I. AM. SHOOK. So many memories at the Breakfast Club and the Roxbury. Birthdays. Parties. New friends. I’m destroyed,” wrote Allison Smith.
