Charlotte skateboarders will soon have a reason to flock to Camp North End, as Armada Skate Shop moves in there this fall.

Owner Patrick Carroll is a Charlotte native who has been skateboarding around the city for decades, first opening his store in Plaza Midwood in 2010. Now, he’s relocating with the goal to connect with a wider audience — including the younger generations newly learning the sport.

“Camp North End is filled with this amazing creative energy and fosters connection,” Carroll said in a news release from ATCO Properties & Management and partner Shorenstein Properties, LLC.

“It’s the perfect place to launch something ambitious where everyone, even kids and families, can experience the magic of skateboarding and the way it brings people together.”

Armada Skate Shop will offer skateboards, longboards and roller skates, along with shoes, clothing and accessories from popular brands. You can fix up your gear there, too, as there will be a service station-inspired repair set-up with tools at the ready.

Customers can also look forward to board-painting workshops led by local artists, as well as workshops for kids, in a space decorated with automotive-themed artwork and murals.

The shop will be found at Camp North End’s Quonset Hut next to Hardy Boys Records. Recent changes to the adaptive reuse campus include the opening of Blasian Asian Way and announcements by Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co. and Hip-Hop Smoothies that they’ll be operating there by this fall. There’s been closings, too: Some Camp North End businesses have struggled to survive a summer of slower foot traffic, with Saru and Bleu Barn Bistro calling it quits.

“We are thrilled to have Armada Skate Shop join the mix of restaurants and retail in the Keswick District,” Tommy Mann, development director of Camp North End, said in the news release. “Patrick embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and community focus that we champion here at Camp North End, and we’re excited for him to hit the ground running at Camp.”
