Condado Tacos now open in South End, with build-your-own specialty tacos

Charlotte is now home to the state’s first Condado Tacos — a build-your-own and specialty tacos chain — after it opened Thursday, May 12. The restaurant, known for its dips, tacos and margaritas is located in South End.

“We love Charlotte because it is such a great center for the state where we can establish our presence,” Chris Artinian, president and CEO, said. “It’s a great restaurant market and South End has the perfect mix of residential, retail and a little office space. We love the diversity and that it has that Charlotte feel.”

The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating and will offer dine in, to go, delivery and catering services. One of the signature features of Condados Tacos is its use of local artists to create a unique graffiti mural for each location.

“It’s signature to what we do and what makes our place not just another chain,” Artinian said. “We really try to get local and make it feel like the town we are in.” The artist selection process for the South End location will begin in 2022.

From double decker tacos including its best seller Lucy’s Fire — a signature Firecracker shell, roasted chicken, lettuce, cilantro, onions, Middlefield smoked cheddar, corn salsa and cilantro-lime aioli — to handmade refried bean dip, all of Condado Tacos ingredients are fresh and non-GMO.

Founded in Columbus, Ohio, Condado Taco first opened seven years ago. In 2020 it opened five locations, in 2021 it opened nine, and in 2022 it is set to open 10-12.

“When it comes to Charlotte — downtown, SouthPark, Ballantyne — there’s no reason why we couldn’t do three to four locations, but in terms of the state we have sights set outside of Charlotte as well, with Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington,” Artinian said.
