More must-eat restaurants in South End: Culinary Dropout, Good Wurst, Uptown Yolk, more
Real estate firm The Spectrum Companies has big plans for Vantage South End, a mixed-use development just two blocks from Uptown and one-and-a-half blocks from the Rail Trail. Among them: Become a foodie destination.
Need some background? Here’s what we know:
Arizona-based Culinary Dropout will open at Vantage South End, The Charlotte Observer reported on Wednesday, May 18. Culinary Dropout has eight locations in Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Fox also owns North Italia and Flower Child.
Dram & Draught whiskey and cocktail bar and The Good Wurst Company delicatessen will open locations at Vantage South End, The Charlotte Observer has reported. Dram & Draught, which is new to the Queen City, will offer over 300 whiskeys and an extensive cocktail list. Good Wurst, known for its Montreal-style bagels and German bratwursts, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at its second Charlotte location.
Uptown Yolk will reopen with a location at Vantage South End this spring, CharlotteFive reported. The full-service restaurant, part of Subrina and Greg Collier’s BayHaven Restaurant Group, will offer breakfast staples and brunch dinners with plenty of Southern flair.
Coming soon: The Spectrum Companies plans to announce a handful of more restaurants.
However, restaurants comprise only a small portion of the project — two 11-story office towers, a boutique hotel and an urban park will also draw visitors.
“The combination of everything we’re delivering is special,” The Spectrum Companies CEO Steve McClure told CharlotteFive recently. “We didn’t focus on maximizing density, we maximized placemaking. We’re playing off the energy of South End and pulling off the investment and growth of Uptown.”
A gathering place
With an ever-growing skyline, Charlotte developers are creating spaces that are more dynamic than traditional office towers — and Vantage South End is no exception. “Part of what makes this project special was the ability to assemble five acres together,” McClure said.
But CharlotteFive isn’t here to report office tower news (you knew that already, though). Here’s the fun part of this project:
Among the five acres — tucked between the two office towers — will sit a 1+ acre urban park. Programming in the park will include outdoor concerts and food trucks on the private “festival street.”
Not just for visitors: McClure envisions hotel guests and Charlotteans alike gathering to enjoy food, company and the atmosphere.
Adding to the outdoor living vibe, each restaurant will face a courtyard or street, providing each with an outdoor patio.
Visitors can expect to see public art throughout the development, another touch inviting visitors to Vantage South End.
“We’re creating a special place that doesn’t exist anywhere else in Charlotte,” McClure said.
Lending Tree occupies most of the west tower, and construction of the east tower is anticipated to wrap up by May 2022. In the meantime, we eagerly await announcements of future retail tenants.
