BOCADO is closing its doors at the South End location. What’s next for the space?

After less than a year in business, BOCADO Bar + Diner is closing today, and a new concept will be moving into its South End space, the restaurant announced via social media.

“THANK YOU. To the Charlotte community — we’re so grateful to you for the past year in South End. Bocado is closing today, and a new concept will be opening in our location. Thank you again for the good times that we will cherish!,” a statement on Instagram said.

The Atlanta-based restaurant took over the former Big Ben location in June 2021, serving new Southern American food. The restaurant. known in its hometown for its burgers, added brunch service in the fall and was among the nominees in early rounds for CharlotteFive’s Reader’s Choice award for Best Burger.

“I love the big city small town feel of Charlotte. I love the density, which is relatively unique. I just think it’s “got great bones,” BOCADO owner Brian Lewis, who lives in Atlanta, told CharlotteFive before the restaurant opened.
