After a five-alarm fire in South Park on Thursday, May 19, Protagonist Beer has temporarily renamed its flagship beer to The 43, after Charlotte Fire’s 43 fire stations.

HOW TO SUPPORT: Order up. For every pint of The 43 sold over the weekend, the brewery, which has locations in NoDa and Lower South End, will donate $1 to support the city’s fire stations and firefighters.

ABOUT THE BEER: The beer (formerly and futurely known as Queen Charlotte) is a pilsner described as crisp, with notes of floral, lemon and lime. The brewery states it is “an easy drinker with a light body that keeps you coming back for more”.

FREE BEER AND PIZZA: Protagonist has also invited all firefighters to enjoy a pint of The 43 and a slice of pizza for free. Bring your firefighter ID to participate.

“We believe in the power of coming together as a community, especially during challenging times. So this weekend, let’s join together to honor the bravery and selflessness of our local heroes- and as a community, we can make a significant impact,” Protagonist posted on Instagram on Thursday night.

“This weekend, we raise a glass to the firefighters of Charlotte!”
