A few years ago, former Charlotte Observer food editor Kathleen Purvis shared a few of what she thought were the best places to dine alone in Charlotte with Eater. But as you know, things change quickly around here (R.I.P., The Stanley). And since then, the demand for solo dining reservations has only continued to increase.

With many in Charlotte dining alone these days, we put the question back out to you — and you answered the call.

Alexander Michaels

Location: 401 W 9th St, Charlotte, NC 28202

There’s a booth in the back that’s made for one person — and the rumor is that it’s haunted! So you’re not really alone. — Melissa Oyler

Alexander Michael’s has been a Fourth Ward bar and eatery for more than 30 years, but the building has been around since 1897. People have reported paranormal activity, hearing their names called softly by disembodied voices or feeling as if they had been grabbed when no one was there.

Jinya Ramen Bar

Location: Ally Charlotte Center, 601 S Tryon St Unit 132, Charlotte, NC 28202

Location: 4401 Barclay Downs Dr Suite 134, Charlotte, NC 28209

I really like Jinya at the Ally Building. If you can park outside, you can get two hours on the meter. Which to me is really great — it’s under four dollars! Jinya has some of the best ramen noodle soup, and when the music is not too loud, it’s very comfortable for a solo party in the bar area. The bar area not only has seats at the bar, but it has about four sections in a separate area from the bar that are very quiet and quaint. When I am dining alone, I don’t like to have a lot of people around while I’m eating. I would like to enjoy the quietness of eating and maybe looking at some of my messages or just winding down. — Melanie Dunston
