Hey readers! It’s Heidi, the assistant editor of CharlotteFive, where we keep you up to date on all the area’s food and drink news.

One restaurant that’s gotten quite a bit of our attention this year is Restaurant Constance, which chef and owner Sam Diminich brought into the national spotlight as a semifinalist in the James Beard Awards’ Best Chef: Southeast category.

The intimate, 10-table restaurant is an ode to local farming, seasonal produce and warm hospitality. Everything carries a personal touch by Sam, who grew up in the professional kitchens of his father and grandfather.

Our event

Now, we’re teaming up with Restaurant Constance to cook up an exclusive event for readers of The Charlotte Observer and The Herald in Rock Hill. If you join us, you’ll get a chance to chat with Charlotte Observer staff including Executive Editor Rana Cash, hear from Sam himself and have an unforgettable meal.

What to expect

During the dinner, Sam will serve up five courses of exquisite dishes including a balsamic bacon and plum tart tatin with pesto and crème fraîche; and grilled Wagyu beef with a pimento and cheese croquette and Bordelaise sauce. For dessert, you’ll enjoy salted chocolate miso caramel bites, a spinoff of Restaurant Constance’s ever-popular chocolate miso tart.

Each course will be served with a pairing of wine or a non-alcoholic cocktail, cheekily themed after things you see in CharlotteFive. (Personally, I’m looking forward to trying the Readers’ Choice: El Scorcho, featuring Ritual Tequila Alternative, strawberry, cucumber and jalapeno.)

If you haven’t tried Sam’s food before — or, truthfully, even if you’re quite familiar with it — you’re in for a special treat. Layers of flavor. Seasoning on point. Impeccable service.

In all, it’s an exclusive experience you won’t want to miss. I hope you’ll join us June 9, so we can get to know each other over good food and drink. Don’t delay in reserving your spot. Only 40 seats are available, and they’ll go fast.
