A popular breakfast and lunch chain has bid adieu to Fort Mill.
Famous Toastery has permanently closed its Tega Cay location at 2429 South Carolina Highway 160. A sign taped to the front door said the restaurant’s last day of service was Wednesday, Sept. 10.
The brunch chain is known for its all-day breakfast and lunch, offering classics including omelets, pancakes and stuffed French toast.
“We are incredibly thankful and grateful to have been part of this community for over 11 years,” the sign on the door read. “We hope to see you at one of our many other locations.”
Lorna Martinez, VP of marketing for Famous Toastery, told CharlotteFive that the breakfast brand is hitting reset on its trade area, which led to the closure of the Tega Cay location.
The chain’s trade area includes North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, Martinez said. “We’re expanding nationally right now,” she told CharlotteFive, saying that the company has plans for expansion in Texas and Arizona. “So, we’re just making sure we know what makes sense for us” as a brand.
The Tega Cay restaurant was owned by Jason Serkin, who also operates locations in Ayrsley and Lake Wylie, Martinez said. Serkin and his wife, Michele, moved to South Carolina and became Famous Toastery’s first-ever franchisees.
While there are no plans for additional closures in the area, Martinez said the breakfast chain is “continuously reevaluating” as it figures out next steps.
From Toast to Famous Toastery
The restaurant originally opened as Toast Café in Huntersville in 2005 and changed its name to Famous Toastery in 2014. Locally, the chain has multiple restaurants in and around Charlotte, including locations in Belmont, Concord and Huntersville.
The brand grew to more than 30 locations in the Carolinas and Virginia before closing several outside of the Charlotte area in 2019. A Famous Toastery location on Colony Road in Charlotte opened in 2023, then closed six months later.
