Those in search of a good sandwich are sure to find one they like at a new fast-casual market in the heart of Concord.

Since opening Sept. 12, Concord Trading Post has worked hard to live up to its moniker as the “go-to spot for NY bagels, snacks, sandwiches and everything in between!” It’s open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 37 Union St. South.

Dawon Millwood, co-owner of Concord Trading Post, said the shop’s concept was born out of conversations with the community about what was missing from downtown Concord’s food scene. Serving flavorful, yet affordable, sandwiches is at the core of the business, she said.

“We listened to our customers, and through that we kind of birthed this idea,” Millwood said. “My wife created all the sandwiches. She grew up eating sandwiches, so it’s just nostalgic for her.”

Concord Trading Post, aka CTP, shares a building with the Local Bottle Shop, which is also co-owned by Millwood. The neighborhood beer and wine bar relocated to a new space just next door to the sandwich shop after months of renovations.

“The sandwiches are named after our dogs and us, which is fun to hear when people order,” Millwood said. “Our dogs are often found at Local Bottle Shop, and all our regulars know them well!”

CTP’s menu is a sandwich-lover’s paradise, offering classics like peanut butter and jelly, and artisanal creations like The Tad — featuring salami, capicola, provolone, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and drizzle of oil and red wine vinegar.

Customers can dream up their own creations with the “BYO sandwich option.” It includes your choice of bread, meat, cheese, two toppings and sauce/spread.

Breakfast options are also available, including New York bagels from The Bronx, breakfast wraps and muffins.

“The grab-and-go breakfast has really taken off for us,” Millwood told CharlotteFive, adding that the asiago bagel sandwich is already a fan favorite. “People really love it.”

Grabbing a meal here won’t break the bank. Most of CTP’s menu items are priced under $10 — something the sandwich shop prides itself on, Millwood said.

Beyond sandwiches, customers can find grab-and-go snacks and drinks, as well as take-and-bake items from local businesses.

“It’s like a classier convenience store-meets-sandwich shop,” Millwood said. “It can be fast, but it can also be good.”

A small cafe with dark blue walls, dark tables, and a yellow couch is occupied by three people. A young girl sits in a chair reading a book, a woman sits smiling on a couch, and a man in a bucket hat sits at a table on his phone.

The business is also within downtown Concord’s designated social district, meaning customers are welcome to “enjoy open, to-go containers of alcohol” sold by participating restaurants in the area. The district operates from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.

Millwood likened the vibe at CTP to that of a neighborhood bodega.

Local Bottle Shop is like “Cheers” in that you can see you friends and your neighbors, “and we’re expecting the same kind of vibe to cultivate out of CTP, as well,” she said.
