Eggs are so much more than a breakfast staple, as shown by a new Indian street food restaurant now open in the Charlotte area.

EggHolic officially opened Sept. 17 along North Polk Street in Pineville, marking its first location in North Carolina, according to an Instagram post. The Illinois-based chain specializes in made-to-order egg dishes commonly served at Indian street carts, or “lahris.”

“Egg dishes are very popular,” franchisee Hardik Patel told CharlotteFive. “(They’re) the heart of Indian food, especially in Punjab and Bombay. Every corner has a food cart,” where you’ll find an assortment of egg-based offerings.

EggHolic crowd favorites include boil tikka, lava pulav and surti gotalo made with shredded hard-boiled eggs in a savory, spiced gravy topped with two eggs served sunny side up.

There are also small plates of French toast and traditional street food options such as egg lapeti — a burrito-like omelette filled with shredded boiled eggs and cheese. Egg bhurji is also on the menu, as are wraps and grilled egg sandwiches.

Customers will find chicken and rice dishes, and vegetarian options are also available, including Paneer, samosas and Lassi — a yogurt-based drink.

EggHolic, which has locations across more than a dozen states and abroad, prides itself on being one of few Indian restaurants in North Carolina that specializes in Indian-style eggs, Patel told CharlotteFive.

“Usually eggs are served for breakfast or lunch,” he said. “Our egg dishes are made for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

It’s the latest Indian restaurant to join Charlotte’s dining scene in recent months. Utsav Supermarket + Food Hall, now open in Yorkmount, is a one-stop shop for all things South Asian cuisine, CharlotteFive reported.

Krazy Curry also expanded to Charlotte, offering Indian-Nepalese dishes including veggie samosas, chicken curry and Momo.

Customers can stop by EggHolic and grab a plate Sunday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. or Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.
