Banh mi sandwich shop quietly closed in Charlotte. Here’s what took its spot.
After less than two years in business, Paris Banh Mi Cafe Bakery is officially closed — though the change has gone largely unnoticed until now.
The Vietnamese sandwich shop in Charlotte’s Ayrsley community was listed as “permanently closed” on its Google and Yelp pages as of Tuesday, March 17 (the Yelp listing was last updated this month).
Ricky Nie, then-owner of the chain’s only Charlotte café, confirmed he sold the business sometime last summer but didn’t give a reason. Pho restaurant Sushi Naru quietly took its spot on South Tryon Street.
The latter, an Asian-fusion eatery, serves a wide variety of offerings from Korean fried chicken and pho, to sushi, hot pot and hibachi dinners. The drink menu features coffee, fruit teas, matcha and more.
The discovery comes after Paris Banh Mi abruptly shuttered its Cary restaurant this week with no explanation, The Raleigh News & Observer reported.
“We regret to inform you that Paris Banh Mi is now permanently closed,” a message posted in the shop’s window read. “Thank you very much for your support over the years. We truly appreciate our customers and the community. We wish everyone the best.”
The Florida-based bakery café chain has more than 40 restaurants nationwide, according to its website. Its first and only Charlotte restaurant opened in September 2024, offering a wide variety of banh mi sandwiches on a traditional French baguette, CharlotteFive previously reported.
Blending Vietnamese and French cuisines, the menu includes a bit of everything from burgers and pho to Korean corn dogs and flavored milk teas. There’s even a French pâtisserie featuring cheesecake, tarts and other sweets, CharlotteFive reported.
