Go-to seafood spot officially closes in Plaza Midwood. ‘We are deeply grateful’

A Charlotte food truck known for slinging stuffed seafood egg rolls is officially closing down.

The owners of 33rd & Main shared the difficult news Monday in a message posted on Instagram, citing rising food and fuel costs.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas hit $4.48 as of May 5 — up 31 cents from a week ago, according to AAA. In North Carolina specifically, the current average is around $4.12.

“As costs rise and the industry shifts, we’ve made the decision to close rather than compromise what made 33rd & Main what it is,” the owners wrote in a farewell message. “This space holds years of community, culture, and connection — and that doesn’t disappear.”

A 33rd & Main spokesperson told CharlotteFive that the food truck closed in mid-March before the decision to shutter indefinitely. Now, the owners are considering reopening in another city.

A staple in the Commonwealth and Plaza Midwood areas, 33rd & Main offered a variety of seafood-forward dishes including crab cakes, fried shrimp and colossal tacos. Its 20-ounce stuffed seafood egg roll featured lump crab meat, jumbo shrimp and cheese, deep-fried and served with a side of bang bang sauce.

“We are deeply grateful for the years of support, loyalty and memories you’ve shared with us,” the owners wrote. “Serving this community has meant everything.”
