New outdoor-only restaurant brings taco stand vibes to Plaza Midwood
Taco lovers, rejoice. There’s a new Latino fusion restaurant taking shape in Charlotte.
La Vecina opens soon in Plaza Midwood, taking over an intimate 600-square-foot storefront on Central Avenue.
The open-air concept will feature a walk-up taco stand and heated patio where foodies can sip and nosh on authentic tacos, al pastor, Colombian coffee and more, the restaurant’s website says.
The official launch date wasn’t made public, but a recent Instagram post suggests the eatery could start welcoming guests in the coming weeks.
“La Vecina, she’s the heart and soul of community,” owners wrote. “Te vemos pronto Charlotte, very soon.”
Ken Thomas, co-owner of the Moo & Brew burger joint next door, teamed up with Bocao Sushi owners Carlos Nuñez and Victor Abad to launch the fusion concept, Axios Charlotte reported. The project was three years in the making.
At La Vecina, customers can expect a full-service dining experience featuring a blend of Latino cuisines. The walk-up counter is the star of the show, designed for foodies to take their tacos and drinks to go, the outlet reported.
Traditional dishes are on the menu, too, along with homemade tortillas, mezcal-forward cocktails and Sunday brunch offerings, the restaurant’s website says.
Plus, live DJs will spin on the weekends.
“We wanted this place to kind of feel like a home, even though it’s a restaurant,” Nuñez told The Charlotte Business Journal in January. “La Vecina is built for experience more than anything else.”
CharlotteFive reached out to La Vecina for more information on Friday and was awaiting a response.
