Charlotte-area Michelin-recommended restaurant shuts temporarily after fire
A small fire at Kindred has temporarily closed the popular Davidson restaurant.
The restaurant, which earned recommended status from Michelin last year, CharlotteFive reported, is known for its seasonal menu and house-made milkbread.
According to a post shared on Instagram, the fire happened Sunday evening and was quickly contained.
“Thankfully everyone is safe and well, and we owe so much gratitude to our amazing team that managed the situation so well,” the post reads.
In a video posted to Instagram, owners Joe and Katy Kindred, the duo who is also behind Albertine; Hello, Sailor; and Milkbread, said the fire started around 7:30 p.m. in a wastebasket inside an upstairs bathroom.
While the blaze itself was minor, the building’s sprinkler system caused “quite a bit of water damage,” prompting a temporary closure for cleanup and repairs.
Staff members acted quickly to limit the damage, using squeegees to dry the space as much as possible, the Kindreds said, praising the team for “springing into action” during the incident. No injuries were reported.
Joe Kindred said it will remain closed “for a period of time” while crews work to repair the space. The restaurant also noted it plans to use the downtime to make improvements before reopening.
Despite the setback, the Kindreds pointed to an outpouring of support from neighboring businesses and the Davidson community.
“We’re going to come back from this … and be better,” Joe Kindred said, adding that they hope to welcome guests back soon.
