Neighborhood bagel shop plots second location near Charlotte. When does it open?
New York-style bagels and more than a dozen homemade schmears are on the menu at a new bagel shop set to open just south of Charlotte.
West End Bagels will add a second location in Waxhaw, years after its 2021 debut in nearby Indian Land, South Carolina, the owners shared on social media this week.
Its original shop opened in Clifton Park, New York, in 2014.
The bagel shop, which offers an array of sandwiches, sides and sweets, will fill the former Java’s Brewing Bakery and Café space at 1526 Providence Road S. It’s slated to open in mid to late fall after a few renovations.
“We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to supporting the community!” the owners wrote on Facebook.
CharlotteFive reached out to West End Bagels for more information Tuesday and was awaiting a response.
Bagel lovers can pick from classic varieties like sesame, cinnamon raisin, blueberry and poppy seed. And what’s a bagel without cream cheese schmear? At West End Bagels, flavors run the gamut from plain and bacon scallion to jalapeño and Funfetti.
Breakfast sandwiches are on the menu too, along with coffee and tea.
The shop is also a delicatessen serving up lunchtime classics. Think: a BLT, chicken salad or Genoa salami and cheese on your choice of a roll, bread or wrap.
Other offerings include New York-inspired paninis, sides and bakery treats.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
