#C5Checklist: 5 things you should do this week – Oct. 31-Nov 4
(1) Take your pick of music.
Opera with a brewery vibe or jazz with a modern-art-museum vibe?
“The Tinder Opera (Connection Lost)” is showing at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 at D9 Brewing. Sip on the specialty HOPera beer that was made to honor Opera Carolina’s productions such as this one. D9 Brewing Company, 11138 Treynorth Drive, Cornelius.
Settle in for Jazz at the Bechtler at 6 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 4 featuring Frederic Yonnet. The theme: The harmonica in jazz. The Bechtler, 420 S. Tryon St.
Hint hint: One of my friends requested a double pour of wine (apparently it’s a thing now?) at one of these jazz nights, and she was graciously obliged. Go big or go home.
(2) Visit a new Charlotte spot.
Get thee to the new Central Coffee location in South End. It opens at 6 a.m. on weekdays. And the Central Coffee Twitter account kindly shared a piece about how “Drinking lots of coffee could help your brain later in life — if you’re a woman.”
Go forth, drink coffee and prosper.
But maybe you’re more in the mood for lunch than you are for coffee — don’t forget about Viva Chicken. Their fifth location opened on Montford Drive in early October. AND, if you make it on Halloween dressed in costume, you can receive a free churro with your meal.
(3) Shake up your living situation.
In terms of furniture. If you’re like me, you have some work to do on your home office. Even if your relationship can survive IKEA, take a trip to Sleepy Poet Antique Mall, Consignments on Park and/or Habitat ReStore.
And vote in the CharlotteFive Awards shopping category.
(4) Make a political move.
Vote early. You can cast a ballot early at 22 sites in Mecklenburg County until Nov. 5.
Attend a free forum on “The Truth about HB2” on Nov. 2. Molly Grantham will be moderating a panel 7 p.m. that includes Richard Vinroot, a former Charlotte mayor, and Chris Sgro, executive director of Equality NC. McGlohon Theater, Spirit Square, 345 N. College St.
(5) Listen more, talk less.
Give your own words a rest and listen to Episode 5 of the #DiscussCLT podcast: “The Charlotte Food Scene With Chef Chris Coleman & Kristen Wile.”
Or sit back at McGlohon Theater for the 100 Words Film Festival Nov. 4-5 and see how filmmakers made movies featuring no more — and no fewer than — 100 words.
You know how that saying goes, don’t speak unless you’re improving the silence?
