How to celebrate Pride Month in Charlotte with pancakes, bar crawls + festivals

Although Charlotte’s annual Pride Festival and Parade takes place in August, Pride Month is celebrated nationwide in June. In effect, we just keep the party going longer.

Ways you can get in on the fun include supporting businesses that lift up the LGBTQ+ community, visiting establishments hosting Pride events, buying food and beverages at area establishments marking the occasion and more.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Pride, here are a few Charlotte-area events to consider:

Birdsong Brewing Co.’s Better in Color

Location: 1016 N Davidson St, Charlotte, NC 28206

When: Throughout June

Birdsong Brewing Co.’s Better In Color, a limited-edition blonde ale infused with citrus, will be exclusively available in its taproom this June.

The brewery has partnered with Time Out Youth to create a new Pride T-shirt, too. A portion of all shirt sales will be donated to the local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth.

Birdsong is also holding Drink for a Cause night June 27 from 5-8 p.m.when $1 from pint sold will go to Time Out Youth. Representatives from the group will be on hand to share information about their organization and programs.

Rally

Location: 101 Southside Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217

When: Throughout June

Rally is offering multiple events for pickleball patrons to show off their Pride. Events include:

  • Queer Pickles Club every Tuesday through Aug. 7 from 8-9:30 p.m. on the outdoor courts. Cost is $150 for the whole season or $15 for a one-week drop in.

  • Pride Scramble on Saturday June, 14 from 6:30-10 p.m. Cost is $55 per ticket for the all-levels event with Pride-themed drinks.

  • Singles Social-Queer Edition on Saturday June 21 from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $30 per ticket for 2 hours of rotating pickleball play — and your first drink is free.

Snooze A.M. Eatery’s Pride Pancakes

Location: 1331 Central Ave Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28205

Location: 4425 Sharon Rd S170, Charlotte, NC 28211

When: Throughout June

As it has in past years, Snooze A.M. Eatery is celebrating Pride Month with Pride Pancakes, filled with white chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles, topped with sweet cream drizzle, whipped mascarpone and extra sprinkles.

Belmont Pride

Location: Station, 4 N Main St, Belmont, NC 28012

When: June 7, 3 p.m.

Those attending Belmont’s Pride Crawl & Community Day will get buttons created by Belmont Local that will get you shopping discounts at local affiliates. Spots participating in the bar crawl include Station, where the event kicks off, as well as Kaya Gastrolounge, String Bean Market, Stonefired Social and Primal Brewery.

Rock Hill Pride

Location: Multiple

When: June 16-22

Rock Hill’s Pride Festival is supported by, funded by and run by downtown businesses and volunteers. Events include one-act Pride plays, a March for Equality on June 18 from 5-7:30 p.m., parties and an outdoor festival with food trucks and activities on June 21 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Equity Pride Crawl

Location: Slate, 200 E Bland St Charlotte, NC 28203

When: June 21, 4-11:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $13.25 for the Equity Pride Crawl in South End. Check in at Slate, then spend the evening sipping curated cocktails in inclusive spaces while you connect with the community.

Huntersville Pride

Location: Veterans Park, 201 Huntersville-Concord Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078

When: June 22, 12:30-6 p.m.

Huntersville’s first Pride celebration, hosted by Beer Money Entertainment, promises a family-friendly festival celebrating love, inclusion and diversity. Expect live entertainment, local vendors, food trucks and community resources.

Charlotte Pride

Location: First Ward Park, 301 E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28202, and surrounding streets in uptown Charlotte

When: Aug. 16-17

The Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade — celebrating its 25th anniversary this year — wraps up a host of Pride events in the Queen City, including a job fair, an interfaith service and an annual LGBTQ film festival. The festival and parade itself will feature live music and entertainment that has seen crowds of up to 200,000 people across the weekend.

Coming of Age

Location: Charlotte Ballet, 701 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202

When: June 27-28, at 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday

One Voice Chorus of Charlotte is putting on a two-act performance, Coming of Age, that explores self-discovery in the queer community. Expect classic songs such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Both Sides Now,” Broadway favorites like “Defying Gravity” and “I Am What I Am,” and movie hits including “What I Was Made For” and “This is Me.”

Food and drinks will be available pre-show and during intermission, and audience members can take part in gift basket raffles stocked with local items.
