Move over, Duke Energy Center light show: Uptown’s newest tower can spell out words

Sure, the Bank of America tower looks nice when it’s all lit up at night. And it’s cool to see Duke Energy Center lit up for a cause or flashing blue when the Carolina Panthers score.

But uptown Charlotte’s newest office tower, 300 South Tryon, is raising the bar for building light shows. The building showed off its lights Wednesday, according to the Observer’s Ely Portillo. In addition to changing colors and forming patterns, the lights on the side of the building can spell out words. Game changer.

Check out the video below, taken by the Observer’s Rogelio Aranda:

Obviously, we should see “Go Panthers” and “Go Hornets” scrolling down the building on game days and a waving American flag on Fourth of July, but we’re  really excited to see how else the folks at 300 South Tryon use this nifty little feature. Advertisements? Inspirational quotes? Fahrenheit drink specials? The possibilities are endless.

And it’s only a matter of time before some dude uses it for an epic marriage proposal.

The 25-story tower should welcome its first tenant in August and a 217-room Kimpton hotel with a rooftop bar is set to open beside it later this year.

Welcome to the skyline, 300 South Tryon.
