Searching for adoption truth

The Charlotte Observer’s Théoden Janes recently found himself doing a deep dive into the history of his adoption. It’s unearthed other stories of adoptions from South Korea that has left him questioning everything.

Théoden Janes, a veteran reporter for The Charlotte Observer, was orphaned as a baby in South Korea and adopted by a couple in the U.S. when he was nine months old. For most of the past five decades, he’d never been much interested in learning about how or why he ended up here. But recently, he finally decided to do a deep dive into his history as an adoptee — and to hunt for clues to his life’s mysteries.
