‘Huge fireball’ as Charlotte food truck bursts into flames. 1 person injured, fire officials say 

One person was injured when a vehicle that sells late-night food in South End went up in a flames Saturday, according to emergency officials.

It’s unclear which food truck was involved. Images from the incident showed a large van gutted by fire.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Charlotte Fire Department responded to the 1400 block of South Tryon. Charlotte Fire said one person received non-life threatening injuries.

“Fire was determined to be accidental that started in the cooking area,” fire officials said on Twitter Sunday.

In an update, the department said damages were estimated at $5,000.

The vehicle was parked in the busy South End entertainment district. It happened near the intersection of South Tryon Street and West Summit Avenue, officials say. The area is popular on nights and weekends with numerous bars and restaurants nearby.

Multiple people captured the fire on video.

One bystander, Zack McGee, posted a short video and said he was standing near the Gin Mill on S. Tryon Street. The food truck appeared to be parked near the ABC store parking lot.

McGee’s video shows the vehicle fully engulfed then a loud boom is heard.

Another man, who said he called 911, described on NextDoor what he saw, calling it an explosion-like incident. “Was a huge fireball,” Chuck Foresyth wrote on NextDoor late Saturday.
