Ex-Chamber of Commerce president arrested in NC on 29 embezzlement counts, SBI says
The former president and chief executive officer of the Anson County Chamber of Commerce was arrested Wednesday on 29 counts of embezzlement, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.
Shelby Emrich, 47, is accused of using her chamber of commerce debit card and fake checks to withdraw cash from chamber accounts for personal use, according to an SBI news release.
The SBI hasn’t said what Emrich allegedly spent the money on.
On March 15, Wadesboro Police Chief T.L. Spencer requested the SBI investigate allegations of embezzlement involving chamber accounts.
Emrich turned herself in at the Anson County Jail on Wednesday, and a magistrate issued a $29,000 secured bond. Emrich could not be reached for comment.
