Chase bank hits a milestone in Charlotte, marking rapid expansion across NC

JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s largest bank, is expanding in the Charlotte market with the debut of its South End branch.

A grand opening for Chase Bank at 2901 South Blvd. is Saturday It marks the company’s milestone 30th Charlotte-area branch and 60th location in North Carolina as part of the banking giant’s aggressive expansion plan nationally since 2018. The former Burger King spot on the corner of South Boulevard and March Road has two ATMs.

Last July, Chase Bank opened the company’s 1,000th branch at 6540 Fairview Road in SouthPark. It’s part of the bank’s aggressive expansion strategy to integrate physical banking with its digital plan that began in 2019 in Chapel Hill, Chase said.

The Charlotte branch growth is being accompanied by a corporate office expansion, too. In April, the firm signed a lease on the 145,000-square-foot office at One Piedmont Town Center in SouthPark. The bank will occupy five floors and add 400 jobs, bringing the site’s total workforce to over 1,000 employees by early 2028.

Despite JPMorganChase’s size, it is not one of the top three banks in Charlotte. The city is dominated by Bank of America and Truist, both headquartered in Charlotte, and San Francisco-based Wells Fargo, which has 27,000 workers here.

JPMorganChase on July 11, 2026, will hold the grand opening of its newest branch in South End of Charlotte, marking the 30th branch in the region and 60th statewide.

About Chase’s new Charlotte bank branch

Chase’s South End branch has eight employees, including branch manager Ryan Jor El Coleman, a relationship banker, private client banker, home lending advisor, financial advisor and business banker.

The South End location is appealing because it’s in a “neighborhood that has become one of Charlotte’s most active places to live, work and do business,” Chase Bank said. “South End is a fast-growing, urban community with tens of thousands of residents and workers, a steady stream of new retail and dining, and strong transit access.”

Chase has more than 5,000 branches. Nationally, the company opened 66 branches and updated 180 locations this year.

In June, Chase opened 15 branches nationally with four of them in North Carolina, including one in Charlotte at 11035 Golf Links Drive in Waverly.

Because North Carolina’s distinct communities require different banking approaches, Chase aims to establish a local presence to connect with clients, according to Ryan McGauley, head of Business Banking for the Carolinas at Chase.

“It’s important for us to be on the ground across the state, building relationships and serving as an advice center for consumers and businesses alike,” McGauley said in a statement.

Chase has more than 1,300 employees across the state in various business lines, including its commercial and investment banking divisions and J.P. Morgan Private Bank.
