A Midtown shopping center is adding three retailers, including a Charlotte restaurant that is expanding and expected to open in the fall.

Metropolitan’s new tenants are: beauty shop Clean Your Dirty Face, European Wax Center and Open Rice, property manager and private equity firm Northwood Investors LLC said in a news release Tuesday. The mixed-use development at 1111 Metropolitan Ave. is anchored by Trader Joe’s, Best Buy and Marshalls.

“These two new locations build on the momentum of signing Open Rice,” said Jonathan Stewart, vice president of leasing for Northwood Retail.

This will be Open Rice’s second Charlotte location. Expect more traditional Cantonese dishes at the new location, according to Northwood Investors. It was the first Charlotte restaurant with bubble waffles on the menu, a Hong Kong dessert of ice cream, toppings and drizzles, CharlotteFive previously reported.

New retailers opening at Metropolitan

Clean Your Dirty Face will open this summer, according to the company website.

The seven-year-old Chicago-based beauty shop offers several services, including 30-minute facials. Franchise owner and Charlotte native Swati Patel will open the new shop in a 1,223-square-foot space near Dressler’s restaurant.

“I have seen the incredible growth of the city and watched the ground-up development of Metropolitan. It’s a great center and strong location,” Patel said.

Another location is at 532 Governor Morrison St. in SouthPark.

European Wax Center will open in the fall in a 1,140-square-foot space near Eat The Frog Fitness. The Texas-based chain offers body and facial waxing services. Dipali Patel is the franchise owner. It will be the 13th European Wax Center location in the Charlotte region.

Open Rice will open across from Modern Salon & Spa and Midtown Ballroom. It’s the second location in Charlotte, after the first restaurant opened three years ago at 9882 Rea Road in Blakeney Shopping Center.

Open Rice, owned by Hong Kong native Jason Cheung, serves Asian street food and comfort food such as roast duck, noodle dishes and kimchi fried rice. Other menu items include Vietnamese coffee and Hong Kong milk tea, plus wine, craft beer and sake.
