Woman flees after pedestrian hit on a busy Charlotte road, cops say. The man died.

An unknown woman drove away after hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk on a dark stretch of busy Wilkinson Boulevard, police said.

The pedestrian, 42-year-old Carlington Guy Jackson, was hit just before 7 a.m. Friday after he “darted out in front of the vehicle,” despite the light at Boyer Street being green for drivers, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

“The area was poorly lit and the victim was in a crosswalk but according to a witness, he did not have the right of way,” police said in the release.

The intersection is just west of Billy Graham Parkway.

Jackson was hit in the middle lane and thrown into the left lane, where two other drivers hit him, police said.

Police found Jackson pinned beneath one of the vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the driver who left the crash is asked to call Detective Daniel Buckley of CMPD’s major crash investigations unit at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
