In preparation for possible wintry weather over the weekend, the city of Charlotte is changing how it collects waste this week.
Residents whose waste has not been picked up this week should leave their carts at the curb Wednesday night until collected, the city said in a news release.
The change mainly applies to residents who normally have their waste picked up on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, city officials said.
In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Solid Waste Services was operating on a one-day delay this week. However, the National Weather Service on Wednesday issued a winter storm watch for parts of the Charlotte area — but not the city or Mecklenburg County.
From Thursday night to Saturday morning, the storm could dump up to 2 inches of snow in Charlotte, according to the NWS.
